The ABC of Success for Women
The ABC of Success
What would you say if told you that I knew the secret formula to success? That if you used this winning formula you could achieve what ever your heart desired. Whether it be to have a better job, more money, greater happiness? If only it was that easy eh?
Well I don’t claim to have all the answers, but what I am going to talk about today is what I believe to be the key ingredients which allow for success to flourish.
Each and every one of us will have our own ideas and definitions about what success means to us. Success is a very personal thing and different for each and every one of us. I won’t attempt to define success but what I am offering is, what I think are the three key elements which I’ve coined the ABC of Success; Action, Belief and Commitment.
A is for Action
Without action nothing will happen and nothing changes. I believe imperfect action is definelty better than no action at all. Let’s face it we could all be waiting forever for the perfect moment. Waiting for inspiration, permission, reassurance that its okay- that we’re good enough, more confidence, absence of risk…the list could go on. Sometime we just have to take the bull by the horns. I like to think that it is true, that God ultimately does favour the brave!
Taking action also builds momentum. It’s a bit like a trying to push a broken car at the side of the road. At first it takes a massive, all-mighty push to get it moving, but once you are past the initial resistance, momentum builds and you don’t have to push half as hard.
As the quote goes; success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.
And you have to be prepared to put in the effort and take direct MASSIVE action.
Next is B for Belief
I hope most people will agree how essential having belief and faith is
As Henry Ford said, “If you believe you can or you believe you can’t then you’re probably right.”
We become what we believe ourselves to be.
We all hold certain beliefs about ourselves. Whether it be about our skills, our capabilities, beliefs about who and what type of person we are. Sometimes these beliefs do hold us back and limit us from being all that we could possibly be. As we all know humans actually only use about 15% of their potential. Everyone could be much more than they are and our very own beliefs, although serving us, keeping us safe actually do inhibit and do us, sometimes a disservice.
If you look back in history all people who accomplished great things, they all had one thing in common and that’s self-belief.
Take Roger Barrister who was the first man to run a mile in under 4 minutes. What made him different from all the other people who said it was physically impossible? He had utter belief and faith in himself. He used the power of belief to achieve one of the biggest successes, perhaps in sporting history. In his mind he had visualised himself successfully breaking the 4 min barrier many times over. Belief also explains how soon after 16 more people successfully broke the 4 minute barrier. This illustrates clearly how it wasn’t a physical barrier but a psychological barrier…which is often what our beliefs are.
Lastly C if for Commitment
This is the motivation. Having the perseverance and discipline that’s needed to achieve what we set out to do. Because for us to all stay on course and not give in when the going gets tough, or when fears and doubts creep in we need to have commitment. We have to take responsibility and be prepared to commit to what we’ve set out to do regardless of the obstacles we might face.
Ask yourself, what are you committed to completing and achieving right now? Do you have the right level of commitment needed to deal with any obstacles and problems that might arise?
Yes I know this ABC of success is simplistic but I honestly believe that these three elements hold the key to our success. If you can achieve all three of these elements, Action, belief and commitment and maintain them then surely the sky’s the limit in terms of what you could actually achieve?
